HANNELE-Capsule Collection syntyi Sariannan villistä ideasta yhdistää Veera Konstin eeppinen taidevalokuva “Hannele” sekä kyseisen teoksen alkuperäinen inspiraatio: legendaarinen näyttelijä, tyyli-ikoni ja röökimuija Hannele Lauri. Kahden vuoden sinnikäs taivuttelu lopulta kannatti ja ikoninen diiva heittäytyi mukaan kuvausmalliksi keväällä 2026.

Fashion for grand personalities

Kauan odotettu pluskokoinen mallisto saapuu myyntiin! Sarianna Niskala Design tarjoaa värikkäitä ja imartelevia pluskoon vaatteita, jotka on maustettu naisellisella tyylillä ja iskevällä asenteella. ”Take space – OTA TILAA” -mallisto on suunnattu suurille persoonille, jotka uskaltavat näkyä ja kuulua sekä tietävät mitä haluavat tyyliltään ja elämältään. Sariannan kädenjälkeä on painokuoseissa, runsaassa värienkäytössä sekä käyttäjän kehon mukaan muuntuvassa kaavoituksessa.

Malliston ideana on antaa feminiinisille keski- ja pluskokoisille pukeutujille rohkeutta ja työkalut ilmaista omaa luonnettaan ja tyyliään sekä ottaa itselleen ”röyhkeästi” tilaa – niin arjessa, juhlissa kuin töissä. Etenkin pluskokoisten kuluttajien on äärimmäisen vaikeaa löytää ”mitään kivaa” tai vaatteita, jotka olisivat heille kaavoitettuja, viehättäviä tai seksikkäitä. Tämän ongelman Sarianna pyrkii suunnittelullaan ratkaisemaan.

Vaatemallisto koostuu upeista mekoista, unisex haalareista, kauluspaidoista, T- ja poolopaidoista sekä ateljée mittatilausvaatteista. Tuotteiden istuvuus usean muotoisille ja kokoisille kehoille on ilahduttanut ja inspiroinut monia. Malliston vaatteiden kaavoja testattiin ja kehitettiin yhteistyössä kymmenien eri kohdeasiakkaiden kanssa vuosina 2021-2024. Sarianna Niskalalle myönnettiin Suomen Kulttuurirahaston taiteilija-apuraha pluskokoisen malliston konseptin suunnitteluun 2021.

Remix Finland 2018

2017

In my BA thesis collection I decided to challenge myself and design a beautiful fabric and piece from left over fur pieces and old fur coats. I cut the fur into pieces and sew the pieces together into a yarn. The technique I developed enabled me to win the Remix Finland 2018 fashion design competition.

In Remix Finland collection I continued in the spirit of my BA collection and designed a capsule collection that combined all my textile knowledge; pieces made from shaft loom fur fabrics and my other textiles designed by me such as digital prints, jacquard fabric and silk screened prints. Moreover, in the collection I wanted to explore the idea of a new kind of luxury for a new generation, in a time of athleasure and sustainable values.

Why left over pieces you ask? It is a pity that such durable and luxurious material is not used in its entirety just because some pieces “are too small”, “secondary quality” or an old coat seems ragged. By making a yarn those pieces potential could be harnessed once more and less material would be wasted. Furthermore this method of using fur in a collection can be done in accordance with zero-waste principles.

Own collection photoshoot styling

I always do styling myself for my collections’ photoshoots. I love imagining and telling a story through design in clothes and objects plus in the photoshoot settings. I believe the atmosphere they create together can transport the viewer into another world.

"Ässät" MA thesis jewellery collection

2019

All the forms in the jewellery are inspired by the logo I designed, and all the pieces are minimalistic and Nordic in shapes. My logo’s “S”-shape functions as the prominent design feature. The material is laser cut acrylic mirror that enables the beautiful detailed and curved forms. It also looks like shiny metal but is much lighter. “Ässät” jewellery collection is a part of my MA thesis from Aalto University.

"Silhouettes" MA thesis interior mirror collection

2019

”Silhouettes”-mirror series was conceived when I was making prints and realized that the classical torso shapes I was cutting from paper could work as beautiful art & design interior elements. Pink “Silhouette”- mirror is my own favourite in the series. In some way it is almost autobiographical as I identify with it a lot.

For me Silhouette mirrors signify empowerment, vulnerability and strength. All the ladies, gents and gentle people (mirrors) have their own names and are inspired by gorgeous real-life ladies, gents & people in my life. The mirrors are designed to express different body types and hopefully communicate to the viewer that they are beautiful & enough as they are. ”Silhouettes” mirror series is a part of my MA thesis from Aalto University.

MA thesis print collection

2019

Print design has been my true passion since my bachelor studies. Making my MA print collection was a freeing experience as I sketched, painted, paper-cut and designed freely trusting my own intuition. I decided not to make a mood or colour board as I usually do, but just go with the flow. ”Bosslady”-print is my own favourite in the series. For me it meant empowerment, femininity and coming to understand that we are enough as we are.

Prints for Aalto University PatternLab

2016-2017

Collaborating in a print design community

Pattern Lab is a master’s level minor-study program at Aalto ARTS in Helsinki, Finland. The project has an impressive and successful history of over fifteen years, and a number of today’s top textile designers in Finland are Pattern Lab alumni. Pattern Lab is a year long project with a new group of talented students each year.

The aim of Pattern Lab is to create a large, professional surface design collection. During the year long project students learn how to design and coordinate surface designs for various application areas (e.g. prints for clothing or interiors, jacquard- weaving etc.) and how to create commercial design work in an international business environment. The designs are promoted at key industry fairs and directly to customers all around the world. During the past years, Pattern Lab teams have sold hundreds of patterns to a large number of companies in industries such as fashion, textile, paper products, interiors, etc.

In Pattern Lab we designed 3 fascinating and differing print collection concepts. All designers realized 8 patterns for each collection. When put together, the patterns form the commercial Pattern Lab collection, which is sold to design companies in Finland and abroad.

Our 1st collection ”Dome Garden” is a classical theme, inspired by historic architecture, mosaics and artists such as Monet and Matisse.

Second collection, ”Neverending tales” is a fantastical and dark fairytale land with a little sprinkle of black humour.

”Wonder astray”, the third collection, portrays the vast and melancholic isolation of Nordic mindset and landscape.

"Aberrations" BA thesis textile and print collection

2015

The story I created for the collection had two young, rebel mod girls from 1960’s swinging London as the protagonists. In order to learn about indigenous people and experience adventures, peace and love, instead of India, they end up in psychedelic Lapland and broaden their mind with lichen and mushrooms.

”Aberrations” textile collection is inspired by bright prints, optical art, 60’s and Lappish lichen, mushrooms and hallucinations. All the textiles are unique and many of them realized by hand. I designed and executed all textiles, prints, colour combinations, materials and patterns.

"Aberrations" BA thesis fashion collection

"Greenland" fashion print collection

2012, 2014

The project was inspired by global warming, Greenland’s nature’s harsh, arctic beauty and it’s culture’s colourful traditions.

In the project I wanted to study how same prints can be used both as interior and clothing textiles. See also “Greenland” interior textile collection

"Human body" textile collection

2013

“Human body” is a clothing textile collection consisting of 20 pieces.

The collection is inspired by human beings. The pieces demonstrate what our insides look like dressed up as our outsides.

In the collection I wanted to experiment with material, form and texture, while keeping the textiles suitable to be used in fashion design.

Eight fabrics of the collection led to collaborations with fashion designers and two of them were featured in a fashion collection done by Carolina Forrs, Havina Jäntti and Emma Saarnio in the Aalto University Fashion Show 2013.

Hurme- collection

2014

Hurme is an inspiration and research collection for textile and womenswear. The collection was inspired by Nordic nature, Slavic and Lappish mindstate plus their
traditions. I made the collection while experiencing home-sickness in Italy.

”Hurme” is old Finnish and means blood. The word is also often connected to rapture, dust, destruction and burning. In the collection I wanted to reimagine Finnish, Russian and Lappish traditional costumes and bring them to the now with a sporty twist.

Hurme was my 1st clothing collection and was presented in Nuova Accademia delle Belle Arti di Milano’s BA 2014 fashion show.

"Tikut" mirror series

2019

”Tikut” mirror series is inspired by the leftover forms formed from laser-cutting “Ässät”, “Legal eagle” and “Kehys”-mirrors. One ”Tikku” mirror works as a separate decorative piece and can also be combined into a ”Tikut” group.

”Tikut” mirrors are minimalistic and Nordic in shape. The material is laser cut acrylic mirror that enables the beautiful detailed and curved forms. The pieces are cut from gold, silver, mint, pink and electric blue acrylic glass and can be exhibited separately or as a series. The forms can also be used to form a pattern or a “mosaic”. “Tikut”-mirror series is a part of my MA thesis in Aalto University.

The idea for “Ässät”- mirror series started from a collection of earrings I created for my brand. While designing the jewellery and photographing them I realized that the forms would also work beautifully scaled bigger as different coloured mirrors for interior.

”Ässät”-mirror series consists of “Ässät”, “Legal eagle”, “Infinity”, “Klipsi”, “Kehys” and “Oksa”-mirrors. All the forms are inspired by my logo and its “S”-shape functions as the prominent design feature. All the pieces are minimalistic and Nordic in shapes. The material is laser cut acrylic mirror that enables the beautiful detailed and curved forms. The pieces are cut from gold, silver, mint, pink and electric blue acrylic glass and can be exhibited separately or as a series.
